Greeting,
Like many new subscribers I've spent a couple of weeks reading the
comments of all of you. Its been fun and I'm looking forward to
sharing ideas and asking questions in the future.
I'm a economic development specialist with the University of
Wisconsin Extension Service. My office is in Madison, Wisconsin
and I live in Baraboo. I've 3 son and a patient wife. I'm 47.
I started colecting tool about 20 years ago. My dad gave me some of
my grandfather's tools. Grandfather was a professional woodcarver who
was trained in Sweden. He worked in a furniture factory in Rockford,
Illinois. I Know a fair amount about carving and old tool. At the
same time I was given a fair number of old planes by my mother in
law. They were her grandfathers. I've been a collector and
serious user ever since. Love old wooden planes best. I've made a
few. This group may be of assistance in my desire to make some new
ones.
I've recently bought one of the castings from the St. James Tool Co.
I see from the past corespondance that a number of you have been
actively involve in making your own smoothers ... I'll need some help.
I have a friend who is a machinist who will help me with the prep of
the casting. Looking at the archives I see that there has been a lot
of discussion on this topic but I cannot retrieve all the old
records. I don't want to be a pest but I will have a lot of
questions on the fitting of the infill. Please bear with me if you
have all been over this ground before. Does anyone have a set of
drawings of the grip that they used that could be shared in a media as
old fashioned as the mail? I would appreciate it.
Thank
Al Anderson
