  uhhh, Hi.....uhhhh....my name is Gary....and I haven't used
  a power tool in....8 days....(clap, clap, clap).

I really meant to send an intro right after I joined, but this-and-that
blah blah blah.... Anyway, here it comes: I abandonded rec.ww over a
year ago. The horsepower and tool envy threads got too tedious for me.
I admit that I was a tool-aholic for quite a while, but I'm over that
now (Patrick L. don't tell anybody that I've sent you an order, that
would make that last sentence look pretty stupid!).

Almost all of my woodworking is self taught. My dad couldn't draw a
straight line with AutoCAD. My projects have definitely improved over
time. A maple cradle, a black walnut Shaker clock, nice cherry bookcase,
and several little things. Right now I'm immersed in a mahogany table with
lots of M&T joints, much of the work by hand. I want to do as much as
I can with hand tools, as much as time will allow. I've got three
small kids, so I have to use my time in the shop wisely.

I'm fortunate enough to live in an area of New England where there is a
lot of woodworking heritage. I work in Newport RI, and the Newport Public
Library has many books documenting Goddard and Townsend. The mansions are
full of famous furniture and I have a friend who works for the historical
soc. so I can see lotsa stuff up close! I hope to see the reproduction
goddard desk where the original went for $12M! (it was in providence I think)
Nearby is also a shop that makes repro Goddard furniture.

Big waves to everybody, I may not post a lot, but I'll be here and on
  IRC #woodworking too.

Ha! Ha! beat you to it! that rotten router is in the trash!
