155675 Eric Myers <ewmyers@y...> 2006‑01‑18 Introduction
Greetings All,

I've been lurking on and off for awhile, and decided its finally time to
step onto the porch.

My name is Eric Myers, and I live near Sacramento, CA. Over the years,
I've done some construction and restoration of houses, some electrical
work, some blacksmithing, and some woodworking on my own. My degree is
in ecology, and I've done some forestry research in the Amazon Basin,
but these days I'm a computer tech and fencing coach.

I started woodworking as a kid, making furniture with my Mom. We used a
mix of power and hand tools, but mostly hand tools. We have continued
to do projects together, and most recently she helped me build a
workbench for my new shop. My family spent alot of time in Brazil, and
we got to play around with several tropical woods for cheap while we
were there :-)

When I brought the new bench home, I also brought most of my great and
great-great grandfather's tools. They were carpenters/contractors in
Connecticutt and Florida, and the family kept most of their tools
intact. I've spent the last several weeks cleaning and sharpening their
tools, and trying them out. I've also inherited some Old Wood Working
Machines and hand tools from a friend and a grandfather-in-law, so I'm
pretty well stocked for much of what I could want to do, although there
are still a few tool gaps that need (over)filling.

I love old tools and ways of doing things, and I'm lucky now to have a
shop to practice some of these in. I'll be posting some pictures and
some questions in the near future, I look forward to more of your
conversations and comments.

Cheers, Eric
