Esteemed Gentle Galoots,

It's about time for a bio update. I'm 60 years old and live in Everett,
WA, USA. That's just north of Seattle. I'm a retired naval officer, but
I still work full time in the software industry. SWMBO and I have been
married for 38 years and have 3 grown children, one 2-year-old grand-git
(GGIT), and another GGIT due any day now. Both boys.

I enjoy PNTC meetings (that's Pacific Northwest Tool Collectors)
and looking for tools at the local flea market in season. It's the
rainy season here in the Pacific North West, so no more flea
markets for a while.

Lately I haven't had near enough shop time, so I guess that makes me
more of an armchair Galoot than a real Galoot. I enjoy sharpening and
fettling tools and have made a few spokeshaves and the like. Mostly I
just putter. I "sorta collect" sharpening stones, but so far I only have
a shoebox full. Maybe a few more. Of course they are all users.

A few years ago I made myself a rustic shaving horse from part of a
fallen tree. How many people have a shaving horse made of spalted maple?

Like Walt C., I also enjoy lathe work, including making new handles for
chisels, and once in a while a bowl or two.

On my list of projects is a new workbench. Of course in true Galoot
fashion, it has been on the list for several years now. First I need to
clear enough space in the garage. I found a Littco 200 front vise for
the bench a few years ago at the local flea, and I have a pair of made-in-Galena
-
Alaska holdfasts for the bench already.

When the weather is good, SWMBO and I enjoy going out on our wooden
boat. I have always thought that if I won the lottery I would enroll
in the North West School of Wooden Boat Building in Port Hadlock,
WA. I don't suppose I ever will, but I see that my fellow retired
naval officer Pete L. has already managed to make it happen. Good on
you, Pete.

I really enjoy just sittin' over here by the edge of the Porch in my
rocking chair, sippin' some tea and listening to all the good
information passing back and forth. Life is good.
