Hello everybody, my name is Paul Shah, and it is an honor to be here
among you. I currently reside in Boston, but grew up in CT and went to
college at Cornell University (Chem. Eng. '90). The whole woodworking
thing started when I helped my girlfriend build a desk about 8 months
ago, and from then on I have been addicted (although the desk looks like
it was assembled by someone with a vicious hangover and no spatial
skills). I developed an appreciation for hand tools for a very simple
reason: I live in an apartment, and while some noise is okay, having my
router screaming for three hours on a Saturday afternoon is not. Plus,
they are less expensive and certainly more portable. Also, woodworking
helps me use that part of me that withers away during the week (I am a
lab technician with an engineering degree applying to medical school).
I go a little nuts when I don't get to work with my hands and a more
instinctual part of my mind. Anyway, I've probably bored all of you
enough. Again, I'm glad to be here, if you'll tolerate my
inexperience, and I appreciate all the info I got when I was lurking.
