well here’s proof of the pudding

For all them galoots which offered advice to me about old tool demos, to my
experience was that the most fruitful was “to make shavings”

The shave horse was resurrected during the last week when it came to me, and I
had kids as young as 7 or 8 hacking at a demo green ash log with an 8”
drawwknife. and various spokeshaves!

I had some pieces of MDF with a few basic carving tools, which a lot of people
tried, but it was a 5 year old who only attacked it with purpose, to carve his
initials and then drill a hang hole with a breast drill!

Folks aslo tried out jointer /black /plow planes and almost without exception
examined the shavings for length

Some folks were fascinated by a rafter square with 10ths/12ths divisions, and
those folks were also somewhat amazed that the CDN architect, Fred Hodgson,
could have written TWO volumes on using it

Some of the Calgary oldtool afficiandos (Lawrence and doug) turned up to scope
out the place

10 hours on my feet on a concrete floor put my feet beyond numbness. But it was
worth it.

So anyway, thanks again to all for the proffered advice from them what have done
it before, and a couple of folks suggested that when they get into granpas tool
box they might have some old tools to donate (whereupon I quickly handed them a
business card!)

I also had on the table a few books of tool porn which I tried to prevent folks
drooling on!

It was so worthwhile I would do it again!

Regards

Eric
