Galoots,

It has been a number of years since I was active on the List and, frankly,
about two years since I did any real woodworking. So, I'll start over like
a stranger.

I'm Zach. 34. Mid-Michigan. 17th and 18th century period reproduction
furniture maker. Personal property appraiser (Antiques Roadshow stuff, not
houses). Pre-war automobile nut. Writer.

My absence can be explained by several facts. One, my wife and I had a
daughter in April 2016 and finding shop time (and therefore interesting
things to talk about here) has been difficult. Two, after I finished
writing my book With Saw, Plane and Chisel, I was totally burned out on
woodworking. I couldn't even convince myself to go into my shop for about a
year. I'm starting to get the itch again and, thankfully, my two year old
is becoming a very self sufficient little lady so a little shop time here
and there will be possible.

My first project will likely be a new door for my basement. It was a
farmhouse basement with an outside door but was incorporated into a new
utility room many years ago. Consequently the steps / door area is sort of
awkward and I'd like to put a door there again to keep the cats out of my
auxiliary basement shop. After that, I'm contemplating a set of built in
bookcases in my library.

Anyhow, looking forward to plugging in again and contributing. I've been
lurking for a while so it feels good to chime in again.

All the best,
Zach
