PayPal is now accepted and preferred (if you use it) on all items. It's
easier for me to ship items through there, especially First Class
ones.   Checks and money orders are still welcome.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it gets it.
Oldtools terms, except on items and orders over $100, if I don't know ya
or haven't done business in the past (and my records good way back..)
then it's pre-pay.  Prices do not include shipping.  All items are
shipped with Delivery Confirmation. Insurance, unless it is a big order
or a very fragile item is optional. Just let me know. Also, I am
shipping a lot more stuff via First Class mail. There will be a small
amount added to the shipping cover the cost of the padded mailer. I
don't get them for free.

Stanley No 81 Cabinet Scraper Plane.  This weighs 1 lb 12 3/4 oz
unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned (it might not look
like it, but trust me, it was!)  There is some overall patina. The
plating on the tops of the handles is present but a little rough.  There
is a small chip off of the rosewood sole, along with some scratches and
wear, but it's not completely worn out.  The screw for the blade clamp
and the rod for the clamp head both work and were oiled.  The screws on
the sole also remove.  This will need a blade.  Minty picked up and
moved out of town on this guy a while back, but it will get the job
done.  $28.00

Early Hand Forged Grubbing Hoe Head.  Measuring 8 3/4" long (down the
center), the blade is 3 1/4" wide, the tines are 2 9/16" wide across the
outside of the tips, and this weighs 1 lb 1 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed
as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is
some overall pitting and patina but nothing out of the ordinary for a
tool of this age.  The edge of the blade has some wear and chipping.
There is a bubble or something in the center of the blade but it's not
cracked.  The tines also have some wear but are fairly good.  The square
eye has some crusty inside but it's solid with no cracks.  This ain't no
picture of perfection but working tools rarely are.  $20.00

Early Iron Ball Brace.  Measuring 10" long, the sweep is 8", and this
weighs 15 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in
decent condition and was not cleaned other than to take a few bits of
paint off of the pad.  There is some some patina on the frame.  The
chuck is good with no cracks that I can see and the screw works.  The
ball grip has some wear but it's solid (and it does not look to have
been replaced, there are no seams at all on it.)  The grip has some
dings and stains and a few tiny bits of paint down in the grain.  Both
spin freely.  This ain't the fanciest one of these guys that I have had
but it does have some serious age to it.  $30.00

Hand Forged Early Hammer & Tapered Reamer.  Measuring 7 1/2" overall,
the head is 3 5/16", the faces are roughly 3/8" square, the reamer area
is sharpened for 2 9/16" and is 3/16" square at the top, and this weighs
7 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition
and was cleaned.  There is some overall light patina going.  Both of the
hammer faces have some dings and mushrooming around the edges. The top
of the hammer also has some some mushrooming.  The reamer edges are good
down in the sharpened area.  This is a neat tool and the first one like
this that I have ever seen.  $24.00

Utica Tools No BX100 1934 Patent Pliers.  Measuring 6 7/8" long and this
weighs 7 oz unboxed.  Clinton E. Smith of Milwaukie, OR was granted Pat.
No. 1,970,983 on Aug. 21, 1934 for the design of this tool.  This is a
specialty pliers for working with B-X armored electrical cable.  This is
in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There is some staining
and frosting.  The cutter edges are good.  The crimper is good other
than some funky on the inside.  The joint is good with almost no play.
This is a neat collectible pliers that does not show up very often.  $17.00

Henry Disston & Sons No 5 1/2 Try Square.  The blade is 6" long and this
weighs 8 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
The blade has some frosting, staining, and some areas of light pitting.
The edges are good but the corners have a little wear.  The rulings are
good on the front but faint on the back.  The machined areas of the
handle are good, but the plating on both sides has some funky.  This
ain't minty but these guys aren't nearly as common as their Stanley
cousins.  $18.00

Vintage Small Perfect Handle Style Screwdriver.  Measuring 5 3/16" long,
the tip is a little over 3/16" wide, and this weighs 1 1/2 oz unboxed.
Not signed as to the maker, this is just marked Germany which is where
most of these small ones were made.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  There is some light frosting on the blade and shaft along with
user initials.  The tip is good other than a little wear.  The handle
scales have some chipping at the tops on both sides and some wear, but
they are on tight.  This ain't pristine but it will get the job done.

Blacksmith Hand Forged Hot Cut Chisel Head.  Measuring 7 3/8" long, the
edge is 1 7/16" high, and this weighs 3 lbs 6 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed
as to the maker.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
There is some scaling and roughness left over from when this was made
but nothing too bad.  The striking face is good. I did rough in a new
edge because of some chipping. That might need a little fine tuning but
it's better that is was.  The punched eye is good.  All in all, this is
a good tool that is ready to go. $20.00

Standard Tool Drill Point Gauge.  Measuring 5" long, 2 3/4" wide across
the head, and this weighs 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good
condition and was not cleaned.  There is a little wear and some light
scuffs but nothing too bad.  All the rulings and tables are readable and
the edges are good.  This is a neat and handy tool to say the least.  $14.00

ATHA 1/2 lb Ball Peen Hammer.  Measuring 10 13/16" overall, the head is
2 7/8" long, the face is 7/8" in diameter, the peen is 11/16" in
diameter, and this weighs 8 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good
condition and was cleaned byt someone else.  The head has some light
patina.  The face has some light dings and some small chips around the
edge.  The peen is good other than a little wear.  The handle is a
recent addition.  That is good and the head is on tight.  This ain't
minty but it sure ain't bad and the ATHA reputation for quality tools
has stood the test of time.  $18.00

R Sorby 1/8 Inch No 5 Carving Tool Gouge.  Measuring 5 1/16" from the
edge to the top of the handle, the blade is 1/8" wide across the sweep,
the sweep is a No. 5, this is 10 1/4" overall, and this weighs 2 1/2 oz
unboxed.  Made by Sorby but sold by Delta.  This is in good condition
and was not cleaned.  There is a small and light spot of rust on the
inside of the sweep up by the edge but the rest is clean.  The edge is
good as is the rest of the blade.  The handle is also good and I did
give that a coat of wax.  This is a quality tool that will get the job
done.  $19.00

Three Tool Rule Co 1907 Patent Ruler Attachment.  Measuring 2 7/8" long,
1 1/2" high, and this weighs 1 oz unboxed.  Robert Campbell of
Elizabeth, NY was granted Pat. No. 867,556 on Oct. 1, 1907 for the
design of this tool which was made by the Three Tool Rule Co. of Newark,
NJ.  This is nifty attachment for a folding rule that allows it to be
used as a depth gage, try and mitre square.  Neat eh?  This is in as
found condition and was not cleaned.  There is a little funky on the
inside of the body.  The outer edges ain't pretty but they aren't bad.
The brass cam lever that locks this to the rule works.  This ain't minty
but these guys do not show up very often, at least around here.  $30.00

Stanley No 34 Type 2 4 Inch Machinist Eclipse Level.  Measuring 4" long
and this weighs 4 oz unboxed.  Justus A. Traut and Christian Bodmer of
New Britain, CT were granted Pat. Nos. 562,678 and 562,679 on June 23,
1896 for the process used to make this tool.  This is in as found
condition and was not cleaned.  There is some wear to the plating and
some light patina on the base.  The clear level vial is good and the
protective cover rotates.  The vial assembly does wiggle a little.  The
base is good other than the wear and patina. This ain't minty but
considering that it's over 100 years old, well it sure ain't that bad.

Three Hirsch Carving Gouges.  The first one is a model No. 3206-06, the
sweep is a No. 3 (English), measuring 3 1/2" long from the edge to the
start of the handle, 1/4" wide across the edge, the second one is a
model No. 3206-12, the sweep is a No. 3, measuring 3 9/16" long from the
edge to the start of the handle, 7/16" wide across the edge, the third
one is a model No. 5108-08, the sweep is a No. 8, measuring 4 11/16"
long from the edge to the start of the handle, 5/16" wide across the
edge, and they weigh 5 oz unboxed.  Made in Germany.  These are in used
but good condition and were cleaned. The inside of the sweep on the
first one has some very light frosting and the others some staining but
nothing too bad.  The backs are also good for the most part.  The
handles have some stains and wear and the first one has a user initial.
These aren't minty but considering what new ones sell for, well they
will get the job done.  $65.00

Stanley SW No 25 10 Inch Sliding Adjustable Bevel Square.  This weighs 5
1/4 oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  The blade
has some rust staining but still has some of the original finish and
nothing else too bad patina wise.  The edges and corners are good.  The
rosewood handle has some dings and wear and there are user initials on
the front below the screw.  The locking lever is bent a little, but that
is common with these older ones. The lever and screw work and were
oiled.  This ain't the prettiest but it will get the job done.  $18.00

P S & W No 1 Ex 1/2 Inch Mortising Chisel.  Measuring 10 3/4" from the
edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 7 3/4" long, the steel bit
is 5 5/16" down the center, this is 16 7/8" overall, and this weighs 14
1/4 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned by
some one else.  The steel bit has some patch of pitting in the center
and a few stained spots but it's good overall. The iron body has some
light patina.  The socket is good but had a little mushrooming removed.
The handle is a new replacement done by the other guy.  That is well
made and on tight. This longer ones sure are getting few and far
between, at least around these here parts.  $35.00

head is 1 9/16" wide, the groove is 5/16" across, and this weighs 14 1/4
oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some
overall patina.  The face has a little wear but the groove is good.  The
striking end had some mushrooming removed and that is good to go.  This
ain't pretty or perfect but it is a quality tool and these guys sure
ain't been showing up much around these here parts.  $23.00

L S Starrett No 277 6 Inch Tool Maker Divider. Measuring 6 11/16" from
the tips to the top of the spring and this weighs 2 3/4 oz unboxed.
This is in good condition and was lightly cleaned.  There ain't much in
the way of patina to fuss about other than a little staining and
frosting on the legs.  The tips are good. The threads on the screw have
a few tiny dings but the nut travels the full distance. This ain't minty
but if that's what you want, well go buy a new one for a lot more
money.  Just saying.  $34.00

Vintage No 17 Spokeshave Or Spoke Shave.  Measuring 8 13/16" long, the
blade is 1 11/16" wide, and this weighs 6 1/2 oz unboxed. Marked as
shown.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  The finish is
original.  That has some wear, dings, and a few spots of funky that
didn't want to come off.  The sole has visible machining marks but it's
good otherwise.  The blade is clean other than some staining and there
is lots to work with.  The edge will need a sharpening.  The cap and
screw are good.  This ain't the fanciest but it will get the job done.

L S Starrett Machinist 12 Inch 3 Piece Combination Square.  This weighs
1 lb 10 1/2 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonable condition and was
cleaned.  The rule has some stained and frosted spots along with user
initials, but nothing too bad and all the rulings are readable.  The
edges and corners are crispy.  The square head has some wear to the
finish and the same user initials and shop number marked on it.  The
vertical machined face has a couple of light spots of pitting down by
the slot but it's clean for the most mark and the miter face is good
other than some staining.  This even has the scribe.  The protractor is
a No. 490 bevel edge.  The face on that is good, the finish has a little
wear and some funky spots. The locking screws and tabs are good on both
and the screws for the protractor head both work.  Both of the clear
levels are good to go.  This ain't minty but for a used tool, well it
sure ain't bad. $65.00

Dunlap 8 Inch Draw Knife Or Drawknife.  Measuring 15 1/2" overall, the
blade is 8 1/8" long, 1 3/16" wide across the edge, and this weighs 1 lb
1 oz unboxed.  Dunlap was brand name used by Sears on one of it's tool
lines, this also has a maker mark of BV, although I can't find who that
is.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  The steel
area of the back of the blade has a few small and very light dots of
patina but it's good for the most part.  The edge has a couple of tiny
dings but it won't take much to get back to shaving sharp.  The top has
some dings and I did take some mushrooming off of the back.  The iron
frame and front have some frosting.  The handles have some dings to the
finish and a few tiny bits of paint that didn't want to come off but
they are solid and on tight.  The ferrules and end caps also have some
light patina.  This ain't pristine but it sure ain't bad either and good
ones sure ain't been showing up much of late.  $35.00

Hand Forged Early Bark Debarking Spud.  Measuring 27 5/8" long and this
weighs 3 lbs 9 unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent
condition and was cleaned. There is some patina overalll , but that's to
be expected. The edge is good and was dressed recently.  There is a
visible forge weld seam on the socket but it's solid with no cracks.
The handle is original to the tool. There are some dings, stains, and
some chipping at the end, but it's on tight.  These guys sure have been
few and far between of late. $55.00

Vintage Watchmaker Jewelers Bending Pliers.  Measuring 5 7/8" long, the
jaws are 1 3/8" wide, and this weighs 6 oz unboxed.  Marked as shown.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some frosting and
staining on the arms.  The jaws are good and close up tight and flush.
The edges of the jaws aren't flat but that's due to the cross hatching
on the faces.  The "through the center" joint is good with almost no
play.  This originally had a spring to open the jaws, but like a lot of
them that I see, that was removed.  Also the clamp for the arms is MIA.
This ain't pristine but it sure ain't bad and it is a quality tool.  $16.00

overall (straight across), the blade is 5 1/16" long, 3/4" wide at
center, 7/8" at the ends, and this weighs 3 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed
as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is
some frosting and dots of pitting on the face. The edge will need a
little work.  The tangs are good.  This ain't pristine but these bigger
ones rarely show up.  $15.00

Emmert Turtleback Patternmaker Vise To Restore.  This is in as found,
fresh from the shop condition.  There is a bunch of saw dust residue and
shop patina from decades of use.  The front jaw wiggles and it looks
like the inside of the front jaw has some chipping around the hole for
the shaft, but I can't say for sure.  The hinge on the mounting bracket
doesn't move but I didn't really nuts with it.  The main screw does
work.  This is missing the tilt bracket and rod but most of the are.
This is what it is but for the money you ain't gonna do much better.
This is PICKUP only here at my shop here in Nesquehoning PA. $265.00

I’ve already missed Jeff for a long time.... I’ve been more of a lurker
than a contributor for many years now, but I always read whatever Jeff
posted because he had the training, the decades of experience, and the
sense of personal authority around all matters of shop skills, tips, and
how-tos. He was generous with his postings, never pedantic, and always, it
seemed to come from a place inside him that wanted to make us all a bit
more skillful in the shop. I hope his coffin was made of raised panels
(by hand) and joined by artistic and uniform hand-cut dovetails, with name
a date carved in Old English script.

This is a better Porch for Jeff having been among us.

The world is a better place for his having lived.

God bless yer soul Jeff! When I joined oh so long ago, I remember an email I
got from him, asking my permission to quote some idiocy I posted (had to be as
I'm just a ham-fisted, Pennsyltucky ham and egger!), for an article he was
writing. One of the good ones and a true gentleman!

Gentle Ones,Jeff was an original subscriber to this list. Like most of the old-
timers, I relished reading every missive from Jeff. His relentless cross-
cultural shout-outs were informative, friendly, and in this day-and-age of
digital disconnect, comforting.
I will always remember that it was here that I learned that shellac is dissolved
in methylated spirits.
I’ll be tipping a glass to Jeff on 10/11 (11 October, Richard).
Best,Paddy
