GGs:

We're being watched over by an angel now (That's you, Jeff!) whose voice we'll
still hear when we become vague and/or nebulous with our talk. I'm selfishly sad
that there won't be new wisdom and humor from this man, but his erudition,
practicality and especially his gentility---to say only a little of his
perpetual curiousity---have long since been the foundations of this Porch, and
we can expect *that* to last until we run out of steel, trees and lemonade.

How horrible it is to have so many people killed!---And what a blessing one
cares for none of them!

Galoots - old and new.

I’m saddened to be reporting the passing of one of our elder statesmen.

I received the following from his son

"I thought you would wish to know, and Mum wishes that I pass the message on,
that Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, aged 91.
We’re planning a celebration of his life on 11th October, details to be
confirmed.”

Jeff Gorman was a stalwart of the porch, always happy to pass on his expertise,
and with a wry sense of humour.  His training leads us right back to Edward
Barnsley, though I seem to recall that ‘hands on’ was not Barnsley himself but
his foreman.  He and I used to pull each others legs about him ‘nearly’
qualifying as a Yorkshireman, for he was a Lancashire Lad originally, and only
lived in Yorkshire for several decades. I don’t suppose the border is more than
15 miles from his house.  I had the great pleasure of visiting him at Ackworth,
to deliver a holdfast sent from our favourite Alaskan blacksmith via the
galactic OldTools IronShifters delivery service, back in the days before
everything went digital.  He suffered a ‘cerebral episode’ a few years ago,
which left him unable to continue his articles in a UK wooddorking magazine or
follow our talk on the Porch.

I’ll move his rocker to the honoured side of the porch, and drink a glass to
him, and the others in that corner, on October 11th.

A Number 27?  Wazzat Then?

Even though he hasn’t been active here for a while,  I’ll still miss him.  I’ve
passed back our sympathy to Adam Gorman.

If memory serves me , I believe Jeff Goreman steered me to this site many
moon ago. What a wealth of knowledge, I learned woodworking through Jeff's
writings. He was always a class act and he will be deeply missed .
 Another one coming home .
