269363 Anthony Seo 2019‑11‑01 Brown Auction Service Fall 2019 Dealer Sale
Today was the Brown Auction Service Fall 2019 Dealer Sale held at the
Radisson in Camp Hill PA.  The storms from the day before left a lot of
run off on the roads and a steady and heavy wind for most of the ride,
both going and coming back.  There was good turnout of both dealers and
buyers.  Saw a few of the familiar faces, including Tom Dugan, Bill
Weber, the elusive Tony Z, and Walt and Mary Henderson who had a table
there.

Lots and lots of tools to look at.

Pickings were fairly good.  At the top are a curved and straight blade
spoke shaves, a pair of curved tavisher blades, a 6 inch bevel square, a
gouge, some Starrett calipers and dividers, a pair of Starrett
combination square center heads, a pair of leather punches, a Stanley
brad awl, small turnscrew, and a solid brass pocket level.

There is a screw lock rosewood mortising gage, a rosewood panel marking
gage, blacksmith straight peen hammer, a good pair of blacksmith tongs,
an S S Barry complex molding plane, a pair of 1/8" chisels, a 4" Stanley
No. 12 Type 1 square, and a few brace bits to add to the pile.

All in all it was good run.

Snuck in and out in full stealth mode! Moments after chatting with Tony, I came
across a Washita, about 9" X 2-1/2" X 1", no case, but a gloatable cost of
$5.00! I'll see you all at PATINA in March, but you won't see me!

Tony,

In the past I've waited to see you list things and sometimes the tools
don't make it to your email. So....
I'm interested in the hammer and the tongs. How much?

Bud Brown's show and auction was a fun time, yet again. As usual, lots
of laughing and scratching with old friends. Lots to learn from the
experts and other sellers.

A big surprise was the display of three historic planes. The most
famous of planes was there, the 1876 ebony and ivory plow plane by
Sandusky, that sold for $114K a few years back. Also displayed was the
Montgomery presentation plow ($65K recently) and the single arm plow by
McMaster. Great to see these originals. I should have taken some
pictures but didn't think of it. Tony got the back of the display in
this picture. The table in the foreground, Sandusky on he left,
Montgomery on the right, and the McMaster is hidden by the display.

I've been busy with other projects and didn't get into auction-mood as
much as I could have. I won four nice lots. The first is a band-box new
and complete Stanley #143, one of the last ones made, with a SW logo.
http://billwebber.galootcentral.com/2948_img_1250.jpg
Second lot was this pair of shrink rules.
http://billwebber.galootcentral.com/2995_img_1297.jpg
Third lot was a nice 30" Stanley brass-bound level It should fit nicely
in the Hilton chest. It is a little newish for the chest but I haven't
found anything better as yet. I neglected to grab the picture for that
one. Last was this set of piano tuning tools.
http://billwebber.galootcentral.com/3632_img_1884.jpg
These go well with the last of my restored player pianos. The tools are
from Hammacher Schlemmer except for the wire cutters which are Starrett.
Lots of brass, nickel and exotic wood. Yum!

Bill

Nice finds. Does the same person own the three planes you mentioned??

I'm familiar with the history of the three planes, so I only glanced at
the little historic blurb provided. I don't remember whether there were
two or three owners names. I'm sure some of the other attendees were
more observant than I.
