85555 WANDERSO@a... 2000‑10‑29 bio - Wayne Anderson
Greetings,
This will be a short one as I'm yet not an accomplished woodworker like most
of you. I'm 48 years young and am a mechanical designer.
I just got interested in old tools a couple of years ago. A co-worker and I
started out making "toolgrimages" on our days off. They were no more than an
afternoon spent hitting all the woodworking stores and used tool shops.
Then one fateful day I saw the poster of the Studley tool chest. The
slippery slope had been encountered. I decided that I could build a nice
chest and find enough vintage tools to fill it. What was once a notion
quickly became a passion.
If he were still with us, Mr. Studley would likely shake his head at my 70+
hand planes, 30+ saws, 50+ chisels, etc., etc... and wonder why the heck I
need all this stuff. I've also sold hundreds of tools on *B*y to support my
habit.
I spend my spare time cruising the flea markets, antique shops, and making
tool stuff like saw handles. I'm also in the process of making a brass bound
level out of black walnut.
I'll build my tool chest soon, but I know I'll have a major problem deciding
what to put in it. The other option is to build it the size of a Buick.
Mr. Knight "turned me on" to this group, and I owe him a big thanks (and a
bunch of plane handles). And I owe you all a big thanks for being helpful,
enlightening, and entertaining as well. You also serve a constant reminder
that I'm not the only one that is caught on this slippery slope!
Cheers,
Wayne
