276386 Thomas Hall <l-thall@c...> 2022‑10‑06 Lie-Neilson Edge Trimmer
Hi Group,

This may have been covered before and I missed it, but does anyone know what is
going on with Bronze edge trimmers? I brought a L-N one decades ago and it
appears they are out of production as with other L-N products. There is a
Veritas bronze edge trimmer on the bay for sale that looks well made and just
like the L-N one. I would like to buy the L-V R&L pair of trimmers because the
Tool Dealers are getting crazy money for the L-V Lefts.

Any idea what is going on?

I just saw a couple pair of them for bids at Martin J. Donnelly’s online
auction. Not sure what the hammer price was for those though. I bought a right
handed one last year for 2/3s the cost of a new one.

This has been a trend with some of the truly scarce Lie-Nielsen tools over
the past couple of years. There's always been high demand for their tools
on the secondary market. I think some folks came to realize how scarce some
of their tools are. High demand and low supply equates to high prices. The
left-handed edge plane you mention is one of those rare ones. The no. 9
mitre plane is another. There won't be any more of them made.

The pandemic caused L-N to cut back on their production while demand for
their tools was skyrocketing. This caused a short term increase in the
prices for some of their tools that are still being made but hard to find.
I have a shoot plane here that I waited too long to sell.. They were going
for $1k +regularly on eBay. Now that they are back in production the prices
are back to normal. Ah well.
