13888 carl barrus <cbarru@v...> 1997‑02‑20 new to old tools
This is my BIO.

I am Carl Barrus, a part time hobbyist who is just now getting into
hand tools, although I still feel the need for electricity. I will be
graduating from school with a degree in Physics, but deep down I would
like to be a cabinet and furniture maker. I still have to talk my wife
into it.
I am a Boise, Idaho native with big dreams someday of building a large
timber-frame home and furnishing it with hand-made furniture. It will
fit my family of four, with a couple more someday.
I did most of my early years as a hired hand on a farm out in Meridian,
Idaho. I worked for a guy named Terrel Smith who taught me how to work
hard and to think for myself. After that I worked at Big 'D' Ranch
driving tractor and working the fields.
One of my old employer's sons got me interested in wood. He had an old
Shopsmith and was able to turn out some very nice furniture.
I don't know much about the trade, so I am always open to advice.
If you could see some of the dovetails or mortise and tenon joints that
I've done, you'll know that I need a lot of it (advice).

I had to laugh here because The Big "D" means only one thing at our house.
;^) Like the sign at the Millenium Record store in Portland. Behind the
store is a parking lot with a sign that says "Millenium Parking" within 10
feet of one that says "2 Hour Parking". :-)

Why is it that every Shopsmith I have seen is like new? Are they built that
well? Do they never get used? Are these ALL bought by the Anal Norm dudes?
Do they all have Swiss Army knives?

==================
Well, haven't had much info to contribute lately so I thought I would toss a
laugh in. And for those of you with no sense of humor:

One.........Two...........Three..........LAUGH.
One.........Two...........Three..........BREATH.

P.S.
Welcome to the list, Carl. Enjoy!
