Grandfather and father were both woodworkers on the Muncie, Indiana
farm (necessity and recreation) and I inherited a number of handtools,
but not the farm! The tools sat for years in display cases in my
office until I got the itch one day in the early 2000s.

Today I have a wonderful woodfloored shop with an assortment of
handtools and power tools to make furniture for our four granddaughters
and other projects for my wife and I.

I recently bought a small lathe and am enjoying turning very much.

Hand tools include 4 Disston split nut saws, a Stanley 36 plus the
usual Bedrock varieties (4,5,7); braces, bits and other flora and fauna
from over 100 years of family woodworking.

Best regards, Tom Hamilton

Welcome Tom. Glad to have you on board the porch.

Very nice to be able to have tools passed down from generation to
generation. Especially in good enough shape to use!

My grandfather was a finish carpenter, but after he passed away, he had left
almost all his tools at a local lodge where he spent a couple evenings a
week. My uncle went by a few days later to pick them up, and they had
vanished. I have one Disston?? hand saw (which looks to have the wrong
medallion), which my dad had happened to borrow around the time he passed
away and a No. 4 smoother plane that looks to be a later Stanley.
Unfortunately, this was all that was left of his hand tools. My grandmother
used to tell me stories of the beautiful chisels and braces he had, always
insisting he had bought the best he could afford.

At any rate, I don't mean to bum you out! This was meant to say hello!

Glad to meet you, and happy shavings!
