Hi,
I'm Mike Harless, and when I'm not making wood shavings and
fireplace fodder, I'm writing firmware for inkjet copiers and
playing around with UNIX machines at Hewlett-Packard. I
currently live in Escondido, California, though my heart is
still back on the farm in western Nebraska. I'm 35, married,
and have 3 great boys, who are going to grow up to be Galoots
some day if I can help it.
>From high school, it's always been woodworking with the *l*ctr*c
p*w*r tools, but I've seen the light and with the help from MofA,
have started to acquire some good hand tools. I've got a small
collection of planes, chisels, braces, etc., and am learning
how to use them instead of the tailed apprentices that I have.
I couldn't believe how nice the wood looked the first time I ran
a plane over it. I had to show it to everyone in my family and
let them touch it. It's also great not having to breath sawdust
or wear ear plugs, and be able to have the boys with me while
I'm working.
Other interests include blacksmithing, after taking a summer class
in it last year and finding out my grandpa used to do it, motorcycles,
photography, and practically anything else that gets me outside.
Must be those years working on the farm.
We've just bought a house, so SWMBO, has quite a list of things
for me to build. Hopefully, I'll be able to justify at least one
new tool for each. :-)
Thanks for letting me take up some space on the porch and soak up
some net wisdom.
