Echo the pricey sentiment about NO. About a year and a half ago I was in
NO and had just started getting interested in aquiring some decent bench
planes. At the time I was looking for a decent #4. Saw a #78, incomplete
for something like $115 and rusted, busted and crappy #4s for $60-65. But
finally I did find a respectable Type 10-11 #4 in an antique shop on
Magazine St for $30. Seems to me that I was way out on Magazine (from FQ).
Since this was the first decent plane that I had picked up in tool hunting,
I was rather excited. I cleaned it up, sharpened the blade and enjoyed
making little whisps of wood. I have enjoyed using this beauty many times,
wondering how that plane travelled to NO.

By day a computer weeney, by night a #7 wielding behemoth able to plane a
1000 bft of the nastiest wood known to man. :') Oops, thats not quite
truthfull. I do work for a company designing and developing computer
systems for the retail industry (NCR >>> AT&T Global
Information Solutions >>> NCR). My hobbies outside of work include wood
working, gardening, running, and golfing. I have aquired some planes (old &
new) and chisels and have made a few items (shelves). I am in the process
of building a monstrous doll house for SWMBO, but summertime in Georgia is
NOT really woodworking time. I enjoy the aspect of visual and tactile
feedback offered when working with wood to contrast the abstract world of
software engineering.
