Since it seems to be open season for BIOS's I thought I should join the
foray. I have been lurking for a couple months and I must admit that I have
been thoroughly enjoying it.
My WW experience is extremely sporadic and almost totally Normite. I took
Technical Orientation (Shop) in High School in South Africa and basically
learned (and subsequently forgot) very little about actual woodworking. My
family moved to Israel when I was 16 and Dad started a cabinetmaking
business - strictly plywood, particle and laminates. I worked with him for
a while but did not last long.
I moved to the States in 1990 and worked as a carpenter until the Florida
sun drove me loony. I am currently a programmer and I dabble a little in
weekend WW. I never really considered Galootness until a friend (Peter O)
started talking about it and introduced me to the porch. I was instantly
interested in indulging in ingenious ...(sorry).
I went on my first hunt to the local flea market 2 weeks ago and had a huge
amount of fun. I think I did extremely well (probably not gloat material)
and for $28 I came home with a handful. I am currently working on my first
(halfway)decent bench and am trying to hone (excuse the pun) my ss skills.
I am planning a strip built kayak but will probably have to resort to using
a b*nd s*w for the strips (alternative suggestions welcome).
I have 2 kids. My 8 yr old daughter is such a princess, I don't think I
could convince her to pick up a tool (I will keep trying). My 5 yr old son
OTH is definitely a GIT. First opportunity I get we will go shopping for a
brace and some other suitables. SHMBO doesn't (for the meanwhile) mind me
buying old tools. I have paid close attention to comments in this regard
and will heed them well.
Thanks for the company, encouragement, inspiration and information.
