Gentle Galoots,
I've been lurking for a couple of months and It's about time I pop
out of the shadows and say hi.
In the interest of bandwidth, here's an abbreviated bio. For the
unabridged version (read: only fit for the most patient, while armed
with a stiff cup of coffee), you can go to

I'm in Cleveland, OH where I've been working with wood for most of
my 35 years. Only in the last few years have I descended the slippery
neander slope. What a delightful slide!
My father, who was a talented artisan, an accumulator, a galoot in
his own right, and a patient teacher taught me about tools and
woodworking when I was a kid. It's been a labor of love, and my passion
ever since. For most of this time I was blinded by the noise and dust of
those nasty Nahmite tools and had built an extensive repetoir of every
imaginable type of impersonal workshop beast.
When he passed away a few years ago, I inherited my dad's extensive
accumulation of hand tools and began my neander descent. I have been
slowly putting each into working order and taking the time to master the
techniques required to use them. The porch has been tremendously
helpful, and I thank each of you for your informative postings. It's
like sharing a bench in a huge workshop full of skilled, helpful and
thoughtful people. I love it!
By day I'm an electrical engineer for a large industrial automation
manufacturer, a father of 3 boys. When I'm left to my own and not
working on the huge, century old money pit I live in, you'll find me in
the workshop making piles of shavings or bringing some tool or other
back into useful condition.
I look forward to participating here and offering what limited
knowledge I have where it is helpful.
Warmest wishes for the new year,
- Andy Sargent
