Hope I'm doing this correctly, don't want to get kicked back under the
porch the first day.
I have been under the porch for several months now listening and
learning
a lot. It is a great bunch of people that frequent this place and all
are
treated with kindness and respect.
My name is Ted Evans, my residence is in Billings, Montana, I have a
wife of four years and I work for, ah, I'm employed with AT&T.
Unlike many that have been exposed to woodworking by relatives, I did
not get started until a few years back after coming home from a
weekend
camping trip to find everything in my home gone, including my wife of
23 years. I did not have the resources to replace a household of
furniture
that had been accumulated during those 23 years. So, I started buying
woodworking tools and making sawdust. I have built almost all of the
wood
furniture pieces in our home as well as all cabinets, all trim, door
and
window treatments. Started with Craftsman tools and upgraded to
General
and Powermatic with a Bridgewood and a Grizzly piece. I really enjoy
reading about all of the old tools and the projects that have been
built
with them. Myself, first, I don't possess the skills with hand tools
that most
of you do and second, I like to use whatever tool that I have that
does the
best job the quickest. Hand tools are used whenever they will do a
better
job for me or do it quicker. I hate setting up a tool for one
procedure so
will use a hand tool in those instances. I will admit to enjoying the
use of
hand tools more than the power tools. Basically, I appreciate any good
tool, power or hand. I hope this doesn't disqualify me from the porch.
And in my defense, I owned 3 hand planes, which I never used, when I
came across the Old Tools list a little over a year ago. Now I have
the following:
1 - Miller Falls
1 - Corsair
2 - Record
3 - Sargent
13 - L-N
16 - woodies
23 - Stanley
1 - SJB chariot that I just finished, to which Ernie is to blame.
I really appreciate and enjoy all the helpful information that is
shared by
all. And also the trust. I have purchased some of my tools from list
members and the transactions have all been a pleasure.
Have put some pics of the SJB on a web page if anyone cares to have a
look.

Thanks to all for being so neighborly and sharing your experiences.
