Hi, all
As requested, am introducing self with small autobiog. Several of you will
know me from rec.ww. I've been doing ww for forty years, and have retired
from non-ww job last year...now devoting full time to ww. I like to do
eighteenth century English and American designs, although serious veneering
and carving are still a bit beyond me. So I tend to stick to solid stock
designs and easier shapes like plain cabriole and bracket feet, etc. One
thing I have developed: I've learned to do several fairly complex inlay
bandings and am now able to produce "mother boards" about 18-24 inches long
with good accuracy. Am still trying to get up to one meter, at which point
they might be commercially viable.
Not an old tool collector, nor side-taker on hand/power issue. Use both,
and like both. More and more, though, I am using handtools because they
allow me to do easily things which have been difficult in the past. Also, I
enjoy buying old stanleys (not collector items) and refurbishing them for
use.(I've done about seven, and have a full set of 3 to 7 in excellent shape
and working order.) Indeed, many of you, by your postings, have helped me
to learn the necessary techniques.
I'm joining this list primarily to listen and learn. I doubt that I will
have much wisdom to contribute for a while. Most of my posts are likely to
be questions. Looking forward to reading this list...the already archived
posts are a goldmine of information.
Yours,
Walt Stein
