Greetings,
Jogged by a remark last week about old bio's, here is an update on mine.
My name is Malcolm Dick, I am married with two grown sons. When I worked, I
was a ship designer with Gibbs & Cox, Inc. in New York City. Since I retired
almost 11 years ago I have worked as a volunteer at the Museum of Early
Trades and Crafts in Madison, New Jersey. I originally started cataloging
tools in the collection (maybe the most fun job I ever had) and, since it is
a very small Museum, have done most of the jobs - docent, exhibit furniture
builder, replacer of leaky faucet washers, you name it.
My woodworking really started when we bought our first house, which dated to
about 1870. Interesting - nothing level, nothing vertical, nothing of a
standard size, and little that didn't need fixing. I don't claim to be a good
woodworker - I am at my best with pieces like wooden spoons where no joints
or measurements are required.
In my spare time I am a Revolutionary War (sorry to bring it up, Jeff)
reenactor, and have built several long rifles of the period.
I don't collect tools much - I don't have to with a Museum full of them to
play with/ worry about. I am afraid that despite long membership in this
august group I rarely can contribute, but I do learn a lot, for which I am
duly grateful.
With thanks for all the knowledge and all the laughs,
Malcolm
